How to choose All Natural Soap
If you're looking to stay clear of harsh chemicals in commercial soaps then all natural soap is the best alternative. It doesn't matter if you're looking for natural beard soap, body soap or shaving soap it's important to know how to identify and differentiate all natural soap from synthetic soap. So, what are the steps to take in choosing the best natural soap?
It is essential to be aware that the majority of cleaning products that are sold in stores under the label soap aren't soaps. They are chemical detergents that are made up of synthetic scent oils, dyes and harsh ingredients like triethanolamine. These can cause harm to your eyes and lungs.
These chemicals are harmful and can trigger skin conditions such as dry skin, Psoriasis, eczema, and ecze. Additionally, shampoo manufacturers whipped Body Butter as well as soap manufacturers All Natural Body butter make use of dimethicone. The silicon-derived synthetically produced silicone polymer catches sebum and bacteria under the skin, which can cause more breakouts and stops your skin from peeling off the dead skin cells.
All natural soaps on the other hand , are made from only natural ingredients and essential oils that will not dry or harm your skin like the store-bought soaps. All natural soaps are not removed of the moisturizing components glycerine that is found in the soaps sold in stores. Commercial soap makers can take out the glycerine so that they can put it in lotions and moisturizers.
Natural Soap Making There are three ways to make natural soap:
Melt & Pour
Melt & Pour soap bases are the base of natural soap making. Melt & Pour soaps are made using pre-made soap making kits that contain ready-made pieces of soap. Once the soap has melted, additional ingredients are added.
These soaps may be better than soaps that are sold in stores, but they often contain ingredients like Sorbitan oil, which is derived form alcohol sorbitol. It is linked with cancer. Melt and pour soaps are typically sold at farm stands and at farmers markets by people who are well-meaning. The biggest problem with melt and pour soaps is that even if the person only adds natural ingredients to the base, they do not have control over what's in the actual melt & pour base to begin with. While certainly better than the synthetic soaps sold in stores however, we don't suggest buying a soap that claims to be organic and is composed of melt and pour bases.
Cold Process
Cold-process soap is a better way to make All Natural soap. It's created by adding a lye solution animal fats like lard or vegetable fats like olive oil, coconut oil as well as castor bean oil and commonly palm oil. After adding lye to the fats then saponification takes place with the base (the lye) and fatty acids mix to form soap. The mixture is poured into a mold and allowed to cure for 6-8 weeks, over which the soap will continue to saponify. Cold process soap is lathery and pleasant to use. The only drawback when using the cold process method is that the beneficial qualities and scent of essential oils may be lost in the saponification process because it generates a large amount of heat. However, all things considered cold process natural soaps are far superior to melt and pour bases, or store-bought soaps.
Hot Process
The process of making hot process soap is similar to making cold process soap but with an extra step. In order to speed up the process of saponification the soap mixture is heated.
This is due to the fact that essential oils are added once most of the heat is generated. Therefore, they can keep their scents as well as other beneficial characteristics. We have found that the hot process is the most efficient method of making all natural soap to ensure that the soap we make can provide all of the awesome properties that our ingredients provide.
